General Knowledge on Quit India Movement, 1942

The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Kranti, was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on 8th August 1942 at the All India Congress Committee session in Bombay (Mumbai). The movement demanded an immediate end to British rule in India. Gandhi gave the powerful slogan "Do or Die", inspiring mass protests across the country.

The British responded by arresting top leaders, including Gandhi, Nehru, and Patel, and declared the Congress Party illegal. Despite harsh repression, the movement saw widespread participation by students, workers, farmers, and women. It was one of the final major campaigns in India’s freedom struggle and paved the way for independence in 1947
